En estas vacaciones de Semana Santa la religión nos acecha por los rincones: está presente en las procesiones que se instalan en las calles, en la gastronomía típica de la temporada, también en las reuniones familiares junto al televisor viendo películas bíblicas…Sin embargo, más allá del Catolicismo hay otras religiones que también tienen en estas fechas su época de celebración, como el Vesak – o Día Internacional del Budismo-, siendo ésta la celebración más destacada del Budismo.
El Vesak se trata de una jornada en la que los budistas recuerdan a Buda, acudiendo a templos y haciendo ofrendas. Se escogió este día de celebración para el Día Internacional del Budismo por tratarse de la fecha en la que Buda nació, alcanzó la iluminación y también falleció.
La expresión “Vesak” tiene su origen en el primer mes del calendario hindú, y dado que éste se trata de un calendario de tipo lunar, se acordó celebrarlo en el plenilunio del mes de mayo (Plenilunio en Tauro). Sin embargo, durante la VI Cumbre Mundial Budista celebrada en Japón el pasado mes de Diciembre (2014), los representantes de 41 países acordaron establecer el 8 de abril como el Día Internacional Budista a partir del 2015 en adelante.
Este año, para fomentar la participación en los actos de celebración, la mayoría de ofrendas se han realizado durante la mañana del Domingo en lugar del miércoles, como correspondería. De manera que hoy se espera que los budistas celebren el día de Vesak, aprovechando la oportunidad para reiterar su voluntad de llevar una vida noble, desarrollar sus mentes, practicar la bondad amorosa y trabajar para traer paz y armonía a la Humanidad.
Por mi parte, he dedicado el día a rendir homenaje a mi pequeño cachorro, saliendo a hacer lo que más le gusta: pasear y jugar disfrutando de la arena y el mar.
